This Osteoporosis Patient Education slideshow has been created for pharmacists to help them educate their patients on osteoporosis. The goal of this program is to help the patient become more aware of all of the risks associated with osteoporosis and to present the preventive measures available to help the patient limit their individual risk factors. This slideshow defines osteoporosis, provides a brief overview of normal bone growth and compares this to bone found in osteoporosis, lists some symptoms of osteoporosis, states the of risk factors for osteoporosis, and describes testing methods for osteoporosis. Most of the emphasis of this slideshow is on the preventive measures that can be followed to help limit the chances of developing osteoporosis. A brief review of the medications used to help prevent or treat osteoporosis is also provided. You may use this slideshow to give presentations to patients, either as a large group or to individual patients. Along with the slideshow, we have prepared accompanying presentation notes for each slide. These notes contain information that can be used as a possible script with important facts/comments that can help assist you with your presentation. Print the speaker's notes and practice the slide show prior to your actual presentation to allow you to be comfortable with the material. Bring along props (bottles of different calcium products, examples of the various osteoporosis medications, etc.) if available, to help you visually present the information. If you do not have PowerPoint software on your computer, you can download a viewer from Microsoft which will allow you to play the presentation. Go to http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/Ppview97.aspx and follow the instructions for downloading the PowerPoint Viewer 97 for 2000 users. |
