This learning opportunity is intended to address educational gaps in Kentucky's healthcare delivery systems in the area of HIV/AIDS.
This activity is intended for all pharmacists, nurses and advance practice nurses impacted by Kentucky mandates KRS 214.610 and KRS 214.615.
At the conclusion of this knowledge-based activity, participants will be able to:
- Review the basic medical and epidemiological information regarding HIV and the diseases and conditions it can cause.
- Analyze appropriate methods of transmission and prevention of HIV and current recognized methods of medical treatment.
- Appraise the management of HIV in the healthcare workplace and other working environments, consistent with OSHA bloodborne pathogens standards
- Evaluate legal issues surrounding HIV infection
- Choose appropriate attitudes and behaviors toward those persons infected with HIV
- Identify comprehensive human services available to assist those
- Contrast current pharmacotherapy options for treatment including the treatment of naïve and experienced patients.

Dr. Romanelli is originally from Waterbury, Connecticut. He received both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He completed both a Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he also served as Chief Resident. Subsequently, he received a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Kentucky. He is currently Assistant Dean and Associate Professor of Pharmacy with tenure at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Dr. Romanelli has published extensively and spoken on the local, state, and national level in the areas of HIV disease and recreational drug use. He has also received several recognitions by various groups for outstanding teaching.
